Ah, good then. I thought I had seen a video but it must have been photos that I saw in that thread.

Sorry for my mistake.

Hi all,

Well I have a newly acquired european style sankey keg, they do not have the 2 notches as your US style sankeys would have, mine is like in this video.

2mins 17secs to 2mins 31secs is my problem, I already unscrewed it but there is a clip holding it in. Bloke in the video says you need to push the spring all way down, well a coupler may do that.

I am thinking that the spear would just pull up if I used a coupler to attach, has anyone tried this, I don't want to buy a coupler if in the end I convert to another fitting, plus the spear is as good a fit as is possible for tapping liquid from it?

This is not for boiler use, but liquid storage so I want to keep the spear and use a couple of John Guest fittings on a sankey coupler. However I still want to remove the spear for a good cleaning.

Do you intend to keep all of the internal components and use those parts to dispense stored product through it? I'm just a bit confused as to what you intend to do exactly. I usually throw the spear and those parts away.

For storage, I just use a Tri-Clamp end cap with a PTFE gasket grind/sanded flat on one side and a clamp. For dispensing there are many different ways, but I'd rather first hear what your intentions are.

Hi Salt, Yes I wanted to use those original parts for dispensing product.

I had thought about using the intended coupler and a gas line as the easiest option.
A tri clamp adapter is also an easy no weld option, but then your starting to move the keg for dispensing.

I'm pretty sure there are rubber seals in that valve that would not be approved for high proof product.

I put together this setup with a standpipe to dispense out of a keg. I connect an air line from an air compressor, crack the valve and product exits the keg. I still need to install another valve on the outlet, but it works great. It's completely modular so there's no need to modify a keg at all. All it needs is just a gasket & clamp. I mostly only use this for transferring low wines from a storage keg to the boiler for all feints runs. For primary storage I use 1 gal glass jugs with a cork. I find them cheap at local junk shops, yard sales, etc... Glass carboys are handy too.

If it is an S type sankey, it looks to be. Unscrew the spear, place a coin that fit into the opening and use the coupler to press down. The only ones I vould not open that way were from Namibian breweries.
