Hello everyone! I have been reading and digesting as much information as possible form this forum for the past 5 months or so. I have spent nearly all my free time reading thread after thread! Thank all of you so much for sharing your knowledge! My major interest is in peated whisky. I love Isley scotch and want to try my hand at making some. I have been homebrewing beer for about 6 years, and am ready to make the leap! I was going to upgrade my brewing equipment, but figured for the money, I might go with the Brewzilla 3.1. with he pot still attachment. I live in Toronto, and am luckily enough to have a house, but still not a huge amount of free space. I figure having a compact electric system will suit me best for my needs.
I think I am ready to take the plunge with this system, unless anyone has some last minute information to steer me away. I think it will be a nice introduction to the craft.
I am nervous about temperatures and cuts, but figure the best way to learn is to jump in head first, and make mistakes. As long as I dont kill myself or go blind, then thats all I need! haha
After my first sacrificial run, I am planning on doing a 100% Bairds heavy peated malt and see where that puts me. My first beer brew was a SMASH, so I figure it will be a good place to start to find a baseline.
Thanks again for all the information you have all shared! Looking forward to being a part of your community, and hearing some feedback!

Welcome ats333.
A concept that you should understand when transitioning from brewing to distilling, is that 20L is a lot of beer for one person, but not nearly enough for making Whisky.
Your fermenters need to be sized accordingly.

I am not worried about going blind, I was just stating that was one of the reasons I started coming here and reading as much as possible! Trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can before spending all that money on the equipment.Saltbush Bill wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 3:22 pm Welcome ata.

Welcome! I'll be interested in your findings, I also love Islay scotches and have been wondering about the feasibility of making something similar with homebrewer ingredients.
