hello guys,

I recently upgraded to a 32 liters pot still, with a side reflux condenser that i can install and reinstall whenever i like.

Currently i'm making gin as per odin's ,adding some other botanicals , but collecting a little bit less since im not using 96abv alcohol.
Anyway,i am pot distilling my gin at a collection rate of approximately 800 ml per hour, and i read somewhere here that some people collect at rate of 1.5 - 3 l per hour.i got crazy how am wasting too much time.it takes me about 16 hours to finish my 10L spirit run or even more.

I got used to separate by taste and smell. but mostly by temperature if i want to make a consistent product. i run it on gaz, and i usually stop at around 86C. but if i decided to run it faster, wont the temperature raise too early to 86C? and start into tails.
Considering im distilling my gin based on corn spirit.

thanks in advance

Your collection rate will vary hugely depending on many factors such as kW of heating power, column width and column style.

Your collection rate of 800ml /hr is within the ball park for gin.. I do pastis, which is a similar process as gin, and my collection rate is 1L /hr..

But batches are not 10L, but 6L max using a small pot for the task.. so yeah a 10L run will be long..
