Thick tape for gasket (link)

I often go around on aliexpress, I came across this high thickness PTFE tape, I believe it can be useful for making large gaskets. I have tried to read the description well and it seems suitable. If not so moderators feel free to delete the post. On the thick page there are also some sheets useful to cut out some gaskets.

I checked now, it seems to work fine. Could you try again to be sure it works?

Yes, I've never seen a hint of this product so I thought it was useful. P.S. Did the connection work for you? I use a service that shortens links.

The link worked, but it insisted i learn Italiano for the remainder of the session.
I had to quit the browser, force AliExpress to the main page (non-italian).
I actually had an AliExpress page open, and it converted that to Italian when i refreshed the page!
Nessun problema, Ciao.
(I only speak a little, checked on Google translate to be sure i don't offend...)

Thank you very much, I added the English link (global version) I hope it works correctly, otherwise correct me!

This looks like a great product but I am a little confused as to whether or not if it has a adhesive on it.
If you can get it without an adhesive I think there could be some great applications of this product.

I don't think it is adhesive, it seems to be a tape of slightly expanded material, from the description I understand that it adapts to slightly uneven surfaces.

I think this line indicates it has a small amount of adhesive...
Expanded Ptfe Joint Sealant Tape can be implied by peeling the paper off and applying the joint sealant to a flange a leak free gasket can be made.
The amount of adhesive will be small and I would happily use it after the obligatory vinegar and sacrificial runs. It looks like a great product - thanks for posting it!

This looks like a standard EPTFE gasket, you can buy it in many places, even on amazon. Adhesive is typical on this type of gasket, but if you look closely on most of them (I did not look closely on the alie link), the adhesive is in a thin strip down the middle of the gasket. Meaning it will be sealed out of the pipe by the gasket itself. If sealing flat surfaces, like the large pipe flanges it is typically used for then any adhesive is probably irrelevant. If used on a very irregular surface in a contorted manner, perhaps it could be a concern?

there are a few conversations about EPTFE here in the forums. you can see the experience of others who use EPTFE.
just use the search.
I could not get any of those links to open in English, but the pictures and numbers needed no translation.

I had a problem too opening this up, but then found a little box on the right hand side that had a designation for Italy/English (it was abbreviated) click on that and hit Eng and you will be in good shape

I humbly apologize if the ink did not work, I use a web page that shortens the links and maybe that is the reason. Can you confirm that it works correctly? Thank you.. P.S. I updated the initial link, I hope it works.

I don't think it's your fault at all. I have a years long feud with alliexpress regarding language. Every so often I just get stuck in a foreign language. I change settings, change/disale VPN servers, refresh, delete cookies, use country specific links blabla, and it still happens to me fairly often.

Ok ... generally I don't have these problems with the site but some didn't work so I thought the link was. Thank you

That stuff looks interesting. On my 5 gallon pot still with a large opening I made my gasket using the following method:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=24199
Works great but after two years I had to replace and make a new one.

I've never been a fan of wrapping PTFE around an unsuitable gasket material because of the chance of leaks, so never designed a still that used that system.
Some of the sizes of this product are suitable be used to line the inside of gasket forms. I would have used it not too many years ago when redesigning a still head seal if I'd known about it.

It seemed to me an excellent alternative to other methods, especially for large surfaces (such as a bowl). All methods are good, it is always useful to have various alternatives. I have another method in mind, speaking of packaged materials, but I'll have to test for success before posting some photos.

Expanded PTFE has very poor memory, so you may find it only seals well for a single use, especially if there is unevenness in the bowl or lid.

How much hands on experience do you have with it Chris? Almost every thread I've read on it has somebody saying it's single use, and another saying they've re-used it many times.

I've also heard the complaints of it leaking on the second use and having to be replaced every time, making it an expensive option in the long run if you are breaking the joint often, so I haven't used it in any of my still designs. I figure that if it didn't work for them, the chances of it working for me are no better.
I'm sure it would be ok with perfectly machined mating surfaces.

I have a sheet of it. A fingernail pushed into it creates a permanent indentation.

When I first made my 4 plate bubbler for the seals I cut some 1.6mm paper gasket and put a full roll pfte on to make the gasket. Every time I broke apart the connection before another connection was made 2 pass's of the pfte was applied so a fresh new seal can be made. Now doing this many times has made these self made gaskets even better as every fresh layer over the older layer means a fresh seal is applied and over time the gasket has expanded in diameter both internal and external. Now for sealing an easy flange where the faces are flat this seal arrangement is the best.
I buy 10 rolls at a time for less than 10 bucks and thats enough for many re-seals.
Cheers Bryan

This is what the Amazon link states about it.
This material complies with FDA regulations for food contact and EU1935/2004. It is compatible with aggressive chemicals from a range of 0 to 14 PH, except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine.
And here is the companies website on it.
