Question for Antique Experts
Any of you know what this is or what it might be worth? 22" long by 11" wide by 13" high. It appears to be copper plated galvanized steel. It was used by my family to store wood when we heated the house with the fireplace. It is taking up valuable space in my garage.
Lord, give me patience, but give it to me NOW!

Re: Question for Antique Experts
I passed up on a similar kettle a couple of years ago concerned that it might have used leaded solder rather than silver solder.
Does anyone know if I was being unreasonably cautious?
It would be nice to have an old copper boiler.

Re: Question for Antique Experts
It’d make a cool looking flake stand for a smaller diy copper still.

Wash boiler that many old timers turned into very unsafe stills . Galvanize , lead solder , other nasties . Keep as a curio . DO NOT try to repurpose as a still .
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .

Re: Question for Antique Experts
Lid is magnetic, sides and bottom are not. I would guess that the seams at the bottom to sides and the seam where the sides come together are lead solder. Saw one being used as a boiler on "that" show about our hobby. I won't even use it for mash.

Re: Question for Antique Experts
I have seen several items in antique shops similar to this, if I recall right, they were all listed from about $150-200 depending on condition. Yours appears to be in good condition.
Re: Question for Antique Experts
Flake stand is an awesome idea, not only does it look neat but being copper it should radiate heat nicely and you could solder the spout into the side of it real cleanly, never have a bulkhead leak again
