Greetings from Chicago (oak park)

Post by Technically_Mike »

Hello,

I've been reading on here for about a month so thought it was time to register instead of roaming like a ghost.
This forum is the first I've ever joined, and it seems highly thorough with explanations and a variety of expertise, so I'll make a vow to not waste anyone's time here. I have no experience in distilling, but I've used those little mr. beer kits before if that tells you anything.

I am a field project technician for the midwest for a large architectural and theatrical lighting company. It's definitely gotten me used to frustrations and taught me more patience than I knew I had. Before that I worked for Universal Studios in Orlando as the lead ride and show control/animation lighting tech, and before that I was in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman.

I haven't yet decided on anything, but I would like to attempt to build a reflux still sometime in the next 4 to 6 months(maybe longer). The Edinburgh Gin Distillery was an inspiring story for me a few years back on a nice 10 day holiday to the UK, and I'm also just a fan of learning - so I'm hoping a more complex process at the beginning of the journey will make the actual distillation process more enjoyable.

Welcome, the construction is very pleasant even when like me you have to make do a little but the results are good.

Welcome to HD, Mike!

I'm envious of your Edinburgh Distillery gin tour. It must have been quite informative.

It is popular to pot strip a wash for neutral prior to refluxing for gin. To accomplish both, many stillers build one modular rig, allowing quick and easy changes between both kinds of stills.

Whatever direction you go, always practice safety and patience. Enjoy the ride.
