Making a mash from Fruit Cocktail cans

My wife is cleaning out our pantry and found 12 cans of fruit cocktail. For the people who don't know, it's basically a fruit medley in syrup.

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for how to prep it/ what to add to make something to distill.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Put it in a fermenter, add water and yeast. Let it go and see what you get. C’mon man, “grow a pair”!

Ive done it. Blended up and healthy dose of yeast started separately to overcome the preservative.

Add water to desired sg, sugar if youd like to boost it. I used like 2 number ten size cans per 5gal iirc.

I think it's best for you to blend the fruit first, then toss the yeast.

Yes I do!
I read this somewhere before, and it really stuck with me after spending a good amount of time on that rum.

Put shit in, get shit out.

It smells like old fruit cocktail, it tastes like it too.

I used backset from a brown sugar wash I did and made a little funky dunder, then just used the immersion blender to introduce air and blend the cocktail.

It made rum, but at this point it underwhelmed me.
I am doing research on what to put into it to make it better, but I am a bit intimidated by some of the big shots on the forum when asking questions so I am making double sure I check all pages talking about rum and fruit before asking....

If you want specific amounts and my process I can provide them, but it’s nowhere near a success in my mind yet.

I've got some expired giant cans of fruit cocktail sitting in my shop just waiting to be fermented also I'm not sure what I'll aim for when I do but I figured it was free so I may as well ferment it.

I support anyone doing anything with free fermentable supplies. All I would say is set expectations low so you will be pleasantly surprised if it turns out well.

Yeah when i ferment something that i wouldn't normally eat willingly i have low expectations. [emoji16] I imagine it being a sugar head version of brandy but i have never tasted brandy.
