apple wood barrels small

Post by ratdog01 »

hi ladies and gents

been doing this a few months and enjoying what i am doing and getting but now trying the aging thing so far used

oak blocks (shop ones)
bourbon chips (shop ones )
osk strips own made oven baked
3 lt oak barrel (put my barley in it for about 3 months very nice now )

read a lot of the posts on here and some books seems lots of ideas of how long and how much but again boils down to try it if you are happy with it then thats good enough ( just an opinion )
have found a place in the uk that has apple wood barrels (small ones 4lts) but been looking at posts on here and hard to tell if you can use for aging spirits
just hoping someone could give me an idea of what would age well in apple and if its possible to use apple barrels ( have some rum /corn and nautral sat in jugs ) just waiting to get old .
also will have some banana rum soon

please let me know what you think

stay safe have fun and smile
thanks

The heart of fruit wood including apple is good for aging most whiskey products you can produce. Not sure where you would find apple barrels but cutting the heart wood into small strips works well for aging.

Wortmann, I like using 10 Liter up to 5 gallon barrels for aging that get’s my product where I like it anywhere from 6–12 months.
