Could instant 'taters be used for mash/wash?

I whould thank so but don't thank it whould be worth it.unless you got them for free or nearly so.

i searched through here a few months ago for info about instant potato flakes. i think a few people used them for nutrients (with good results) a few used a box or two trying to add some potato character to their neutral (not sure of results).
but like dnder said, not for the whole mash.

but do look and try and report back. i for one would like to head in that direction one day. but i must get the simple sugar thing down first.

Any source of starch will work, but you'll need a source of enzymes to mash in order to convert the starches into sugar.
