Re-distilling Vodka

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Re-distilling Vodka

Post by hillbilly_john »

Hi all, I've been away for awhile. With help from the list, I built a reflux still a while ago. I updated my post from when I originally built it since the photo host must have gone pecker-up and my pictures were all gone.

Anyway, I finally have time to fiddle around with actually running the thing. I'm wondering if any of you have every tried re-distilling any bottles you might have laying around. I have access to a number of bottles of cheapo vodka that I can't stand to drink. I thought as a test run for the still, I'd dump them into some water and fire up the still.

If you're starting with vodka, does that mean your heads and tails will be a lot shorter? I should come out with a better product..right? I figure every cruddy bottle of vodka contains good vodka to some extent.

Just curious if this is worth the time. With winter on it's way, I'll have more time to get into the ferment--distill cycle but for now, I'm kind of itchin' to get the old-girl working.

cheers.
I don't know.......don't really care.
