Pulling my hair out!

Post by Lowie »

Hey All,
I'm getting desperate...I have a 4 plate bubbler which I made several years ago. Since building it, I have made a lot of good liker; 85-95% consistently. Until recently. I had a short hiatus from stillin while I was building my new shed so during that time I didn't put down any washes. Got back into it (nothing changed with my still or process) and now I can't get the balance right. Previously, I would heat the still up, run water through the RC so that I had it in full reflux for about an hour to compress the heads then reduce water and start collecting spirit anywhere between 85-95%. Now, I run it exactly the same way and I'm producing distilled water! To trouble shoot I checked the PC to see if it was leaking water internally, found a small pin prick under pressure - fixed that. Checked the RC, all good (I bought a new one from a professional builder just in case). Replaced all seals with new ones - no leaks. Changed out the electric element just in case that had something to do with it. checked out my washes - all good, starting at around 1060 and finishing at 1010 (sugar wash and rum washes). From a water perspective, I run the inlet to the bottom of the PC, out at the top and into the RC then out to waste. Always worked well. This is the only thing that I have not changed to a single supply to each of the PC and RC, but I can't see why that would be a problem when it worked fine before. This is really starting to give me the irits. Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated! Cheers.
