Double Thumper build

Hey all!
I've been reading SBB All Molasses Rum recipe thread recently. He mentioned using 4 plates to distill which I don't have so I'm reading along keeping an eye open for info on making this with a pot still. Turns out it's pretty simple as I can do what I'm used to which is strip/spirit run it.
I kept reading out of interest and followed a link somehow related to sanitation
and came across this beautiful piece of still:
Then I remembered seeing this in the local ads:
Even though I can do this recipe without any supplementary equipment I don't see why I shouldn't build a double thumper setup... sounds like big fun to me! Those are 5 gallon pales and would fit nicely along my 8G boiler I think. The opening ports are wide and would give me a lot or room to work with once the caps are removed.
The only thing is that they are chem containers and I don't know what they were used for yet. I asked the seller and I'm still waiting for the answer.
Here are my Qs:
Are there chemicals that I wouldn't be able to clean off those containers?
Should I avoid using this in a project such as this? and for what reason?
Feel free to chime in with any constructive input.
Thanks
