New barrel questions
Hey people. I just bought a brand new never be used oak barrel #3 chard..problem is I don't have my spirits ran yet I haven't soaked the barrel yet either ...how long do I have before I need to get liquid in the barrel ???

How big is the cask? The oak will dry with time and bigger casks will tolerate more time before (critical) shrinkage.
Still, a “new” cask should be OK for a few weeks without worry. Before you fill it with your white spirit, fill it with water for a day or two to allow the wood to expand. But don’t water soak for more than a couple of days before draining and refilling with spirits. You don’t want mold to start to grow in the cask.

OK right on thanks for response..and it a 20 liter I bought the keg to early ......
