Which adhesive for boiler insulation?

Which adhesive for boiler insulation?
I bought some Reflectix BP24010 Series Foil Insulation to insulate my boilers (one is 13 gallons and another is 3 gallons). I've been tying the insulation on with string but would now prefer to glue it on. What adhesive or glue can you recommend that can handle the heat? I'm using electric heating elements inside the boilers, not propane. Thanks.

I would not glue ... I can recommend to use hook and loop fasteners elastic straps etc ... this way you can easily take them off for cleaning.

I'm with Demy, removing it for cleaning is essential.
I do 3 wraps of reflectix around my 16 gallon milk can with holes cut for the ports and handles and use Velcro on the end to keep it wrapped. When I get around to folding it down onto the top that will also be done with velcro.

If you MUST, I'd suggest using HVAC foil tape and only securing it at the overlap, taping it to itself.

As an HVAC construction manager… we insulate our ducting with this stuff… what you want is called FSK tape, if you choose tape. You’ll cut it off though.Deplorable wrote:If you MUST, I'd suggest using HVAC foil tape and only securing it at the overlap, taping it to itself.

For great insulation use Armaflex, 13mm thick. They also use Vidoglue for the adhesive part. But you can also get the Armaflex with a combined adhesive.
There are other but this works well.

This is what I’ve used to secure the Reflectex to itself around the boiler and my reflux column. I’ve used 2 layers of Reflectex and it seems to hold the heat inside quite well. Sure, the outside gets warm, but not hot. The Reflectex material is lightweight, very flexible, and easy to cut and fit around the boiler. A couple of layers is an incredible R-value too.
And the aluminum foil tape (used for HVAC duct insulation) works great to afix the Reflectex. And it is “shiny”, just like the Reflectex is.
Good stuff.
