OK I SCREWED UP

Post by Uncle Jesse »

Folks,

I tried a pretty major upgrade today in order to alleviate some of the slowness we have been experiencing.

To say things went south is an understatement. I got into the weeds way deeper than I wanted and had to decide between a few days of downtime or restoring to a backup from 1.5 days ago. So, I reverted to 1.5 days ago.

I deeply apologize for this. We lost a lot of posts and new users. We also lost dark mode which I will be restoring ASAP.

In 25 or so years of running HD I've never had anything like this happen and again, I apologize to you all.

I followed all the instructions and things didn't work, then they got hopelessly munged. If and when I try this upgrade again I will be taking extra precautions.

Sorry again. Really. I apologize.

Dark Mode has been restored. Little consolation, I know.

Just a minor hiccup, Uncle Jesse. All is good.

It started out with good intention.. the upgrade provide an experience which in turn provided a result.. it may not have been the result expected but the never the less a result.. the result provide wisdom in that attention to detail is important..

Best wishes on the next attempt.. and thank you for the forum..

Nothing to be sorry for as far as I am concerned.
This is the singularly best resource for home distillers on the planet.
That you provide this for us is remarkable and widely appreciated.

The nice thing about this hobby is that you put it down for a while and you pick it up again a while later
sometimes weeks, sometimes months.... In all that time this resource has continued answering questions
on absolutely everything anyone could ever want to know.

.... Just taking a moment to say thanks.

I went to a major league baseball game yesterday. Home team lost. Crashed the internet, HD board, all sorts of random stuff. The force is strong with this one.

UJ, we will recover. As an I.T. guy who has made impactful mistakes before, I promise to cut you a TON of slack.

There have been a number of availability drops recently - almost certainly not related to anyone's screwups - and I've been noticing a lag on page loads. This acts like either a database table with a dropped index, or a memory bleed that is causing the cache to fill and not be used.

Also, I noticed the site certificate was updated and is now good into January. Cool.
