The Amazon 3 Pot still...

Post by secretagentmole »

Been using one of these for over a year now.

Basically it is a 12 litre soup pan with a hose, to a 1 litre soup pan, with a hose, then a criminally short worm (3 coils) in a pan with a water inlet and outlet. No pump was included so a cheap submersible pump is a must.

Saying that once you have the little beast set up, with an extra coil, you get about 15 bottles at 40% from 25 litres of sugar mash.

To get that amount of product youd have to start with a wash abv of about 20%, and collect everything. Sounds like youre using turbo yeast and making no cuts...

I am making cuts and I am using turbo yeast. I do stop collecting at 38% abv and then collect 700ml tails for the thump keg.

SAM,

Good for you for jumping in the pond. We all start somewhere. It’s obvious you are having fun engaging with it. I will just say, if you’re having fun now, wait until you test out some of the Tried and True recipes. If you haven’t, please do read the Required Reading etc. Have fun and be safe. And just for fun save a “bottle” of that first run. You will enjoy revisiting it after another year or two. Just to see the difference in quality.
If in doubt leave it out.

Luckily ,it sounds that a few have fallen before you and are well aware of your position in your distilling hobby .

You should heed their advice .

I got a still from that same company on Amazon. Only this one had a large cylinder on top and the condenser attached directly to that column. And it has blown me away with how easy it was to use. My first still and I have made half a dozen runs with it so far. For a cheap still off Amazon I didn't expect results this good.
