Newb from the PNW

Post by Rockslinger »

Hello all. As the title says, I am a newb from the PNW. I am just checking this hobby out and really enjoy the science involved.
I started down this rabbit hole by stumbling across a video series by George from barley and hops on distillation for the beginner. Seams like a great resource!
I will be reading all the info from the spoon feeding thread created by cranky and look forward to gaining more understanding on this topic.
Thanks for creating what appears to be a great resource!

Welcome to HD. If you took the time to read the rules of the site. You would have noticed, George is not a welcome, He is a bad source for information.

Welcome. Lots of great information here. My suggestion given you’ve been “George’d” is to keep an open mind and research things that seem contradictory. George is entertaining and correct enough to get started, but as others say he shares some misinformation that will need to be unlearned to make this best product. It’s a journey of learning, and I hope you enjoy it!
I just read an article about the dangers of drinking that scared the crap out of me.

That’s it. No more reading!

Understood. As I am new to this, I appreciate the direction you have given. I have read the rules again and see that he is not welcome. Thanks for the warm welcome

Thanks for the welcome! I plan on keeping a open mind and learning as much as I can. I will be reading as much of the great info that people have compiled here as I am able and really appreciate the effort everyone put into getting all the right information in one place.
Side note. I didnt realize mentioning how I stumbled across home distillation would get such a reaction.

Yes there are some haters on this forum where he is concerned. This seems to be due to people asking some pretty odd questions based on “learnings“ from his videos. Especially temperature. Please don’t mention temperature :esurprised: ….

Personally I think anything that introduces you to the hobby and builds interest to be a good thing.

Happy stilling!

Welcome! See you down the rabbit hole.
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

PNW guy as well, I also started with YouTube videos like George and StillIt. I quickly realized this forum was so so much more informative. Now I pretty much only lurk here bc any question I have come up with I’ve found an answer on this forum. I sadly bought a still when I first started and now I’m making up for it by building a 4” flute!

Welcome Rockslinger. There is a good contingent of PNW distillers on here.
