I type one word a min. I took 2 hours for the first try when I went to add attachments I was asked to sign in again. I lost everything. On my second try I used save drafts, fucking same thing happened. Almost chucked my computer in the pool. no draft was saved. This is a free program so I can't bitch but I sure the fuck want to start....

Re: save drafts not working
That sure sucks. It has happened to me but not for a while. Not sure if I messed up or what.
Now when I'm typing something long I'll save every few sentences as to not lose it.
Make sure you are in full editor mode.
I would also do a couple test just to make sure you can load your drafts consistently.
If you can't there maybe something wrong somewhere.
Wish I could be more help.

Re: save drafts not working
I suggest you compose your posts in a separate text editor and then copy/paste into a forum post. That way you can save your text as frequently as needed before posting.

When you log in, try enabling the “remember me” option. That solved my issue of constantly having to log in. Your issue sounds similar.

"greggn" has the right idea. Compose your message first in a text editor or word processor. Make as many changes as you like. Then when ready, copy and paste message into forum reply and add attachments as needed. If your connection is lost, your hard work won't be - it will still be in the text editor.
It's helpful to use an editor that comes with a spell checker too. Don't know what kind of operating system you are using; you might already have a program that will serve that purpose. If not you can always download one for free.
You can go here to find one.

“Portable apps” are just small independent or self contained programs that will run from a USB key; but they will install on the main computer as well.
LibreOffice Portable and Apache OpenOffice Portable are full blown word processors (big downloads (>190Mb+). AbiWord Portable though will get the job done, and it’s only 6Mb.
