Howdy all,

Do you know of any commercially available rums that have been specifically stripped in a continuous then finished in a pot or retort?

Just curious how this would effect the taste...

Thanks!

Bundaberg Rum and Beenleigh Rum in Aussie do that . I’m sure there are many more.
I’ve always believed it must have some influence of Flavour .
It has been the reason why I started my Continuous stripper build . Which has been sidelined due to life .

My thinking , and its only a hunch , is that the tails pass out the bottom of the stripper as the stripped wash is around 50-60% abv . Meaning the Pot stilled spirit run will once the heads are taken off , be a cleaner spirit . I’d wager that as it is barrel aged , less heads than we would cut are left and that also influences flavour .

I also believe that the time the wash spends in the stripper is minimal compared to a batch stripped wash , where all the crud is boiling from start to finish . This bit I’m at too minds about , but it’s got to have some effect IMO.

Cool thanks I'll see if I can get a bottle here in the states.

Yeah I'm imaging the same thing. It's got to be a lighter rum than if it were straight pot/retort, but how light is what has me curious.

I'm probably going to have to finish my continuous (project shelved for family as well) just to test this theory.

Heehee
Bundaburg Rum , well the 101 Bundy OP and UP are far from light . They pack a huge punch . The Label calls it “Intense and Bold” …. Most of which comes from them aging it for 2 years in some massive Appellation Mountain American White Oak Casks @ around 78-80% abv .

When I first moved to Aussie , thought “What the fuck is this horrid shit ???” …. It grew on me .
Apparently most Aussie young males have had a bad experience with it and it has a bad name with most Aussie Home distillers ….. but I blame them , not the Rum

BTW , thats my stuff in that bottle .

Bundy make a whole range of Rums . Some are less “Bundy like “than others.

From the sound of things , maybe yoy might prefer the offerings from Beenliegh’s “Inner Circle “ Rum ….. its good

From every thing I've seen Aussies saying, it's doesn't exactly have a great reputation. :lolno: I guess I'll have to see for myself.

I'm hoping the column stripped/pot finished rum is more medium to full bodied... something good to sip on.
