Will it work ?

Post by Roccos »

Hey everyone,

New distiller here but been brewing beer for some time.

I currently own a Grainfather G40 and with that i have the lid and the Onion https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product ... hment-kit/ I'm looking into buying both a reflux and pot still so I can do some variation.
My question that I hope someone can help me with is would it be ok to just place a reflux still on top of the Onion ? The reason for this is that if I need to place the reflux still directly on the lid, then I would have to buy a resize piece for it to fit, so I figured if it would just be ok to use the Onion in this case as a resizer :D

Since I'm new I'm looking into the Alcoengine reflux still from Kegland https://www.kegland.com.au/alcoengine-r ... ratus.html and for the pot still setup the https://www.kegland.com.au/alcoengine-p ... still.html also from Kegland

doesn’t come with packing and not being able to control water flow makes me nervous.
The FM technology used in this design makes this process robust and easy to use. No need to worry about water pressures and fine tuning of water flow speeds. The FM design gives you direct control of the reflux ratio and therefore the purity of your end product. It’s never been so easy to enjoy the craft of distillation.

Do you want to distill faster or get higher purity spirit? Then you should try this stainless extension tube.
This stainless steel extension tube can be filled with copper or stainless packing. By increasing the volume of the reflux still column this will enable you to get higher purity and/or collect spirit faster (it's basically a trade off between the two).

The reflux still said you need an extension, without the packing in the reflux still you can use it as a pot still so I see no need for both.

Ah good point thanks Bushman.

So basically the "Onion" in this case is just my extension piece? and without the packing I can use it to also make flavored spirits right ?
