It makes trying to navigate the site awkward to say the least.

BTW, security certificates cost money to renew.
if you want to throw a couple bucks in to help out, the donation button is on the top left of the page. it's easy to use, helps keep us completely 100% ad free!!!!! AND you get a cool gold jacket.
push the button!

Just for ther sake of full disclosure here, the SSL certificates I use are actually free! Done by letsencrypt and they have been a real game changer in the industry for smaller sites like ours.

The problem is that the software which automatically updates the certs broke recently. This was done by someone upstream who maintains the software. The first indication was that the cert wouldn't renew and the web server would die when it tried, which happened at 2:05 AM PST every day.

I found a workaround to update the cert but obviously the underlying problem persists. I am going to jostle the person who maintains the broken software.

For you tech geeks, the cert update software is looking for apache's mod_ssl.so in /usr/local/etc/apache24/libexec/ instead of /usr/local/libexec/apache24/

That's the kind of stuff that makes me glad I don't deal that sort of thing much anymore. I'm sure there is a magic line somewhere that controls where it expects mod_ssl to be, finding it is the itch.

I guess a simple

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/local/libexec/apache24/mod_ssl.so /usr/local/etc/apache24/libexec/
won't do the trick.

Ssl certificates aren't that expensive to a commercial operation but when there isn't any income every expense is significant.

This would work but it's sooooo ugly that I try to avoid such things whenever possible

Thanks for the update, kept checking in and figured it was something to do with the forum and not a hacker.
