Kicked out of eBay after 37 minutes

It seems you have an undesirable in your midst. Me.
Yesterday I was trying to join eBay. I wanted some barrel taps and eBay had lots; they were hard to find elsewhere online.
They kept asking me for my state and the only choices were American. So that didn't work.
Then I saw the suggestion I should join eBay Australia.
It worked. I was in. I got this message (note the time).
From: eBay [mailto:
newuser@nuwelcome.ebay.com]
Sent: Thursday, 17 August 2023 6:03 PM
To:
gff_stwrt@yahoo.com.au
Subject: Geoff, your eBay adventure has just begun!
(with my new member number and how good eBay is).
Then 37 minutes later I got this:
eBay
Your account has been suspended
Hello gff_-46,
We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk. We understand that this must be frustrating, but this decision was not made lightly and it’s important that we keep our marketplace safe for everyone.
And so on.
I am so angry I am feeling shaky.
And I am left wondering...
A little earlier the bank rejected my credit card in a local online transaction.
A simple error and easily corrected. I am known by my second name and wrote that in my 'card details'.
They had my actual first name in their records.
Did eBay know about that? If so, how?
I know of no other "activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk."
There has been no eBay activity at all except I tried to contact a tap seller for more details!
And I think that was before I tried to join.
They say to get in touch if I am not satisfied and I may do that when I settle down, but for the moment
they can stick their eBay.
Geoff

I’m proud of you for even tackling getting an Ebay account .
That shit just fucks with my computer illiteracy and involves giving away more personal info than I feel comfortable with .
Sorry it turned to shit for you Geoff

A company like eBay sets themselves up as middlemen. They don't want buyers and seller to have contact with each other – otherwise eBay would not be necessary.
Ebay came before Amazon, but Amazon soon surpassed them. Its like a yard-sale or flea-market compared to a modern retail store. One sells predominately old used stuff, the other sells all new stuff.
I don't know what is up with that account “suspension” and “risky activity” business, but I suggest that whomever is conducting the Australian eBay concession (if anyone does) isn't too bright or is technically challenged. Maybe they are understaffed too.
I tried to join Amazon a year or two ago. I never got to first base. Is seems these days, that a pre-requirment to join Amazon is that you first have a cell-phone account. Until recently I've only had an old fashioned landline telephone. So my attitude is – I urinate on Amazon.com, and it's going to stay that way.

I have a friend that owns an electronic distributor business. He also has an electronics store. He is on the road 3 days a week but his largest sales are through eBay and Amazon. I have purchased items through both but never got into sales on either. If we have used items we sell locally through FB Marketplace.

Sad to hear all the bad about ebay, I've been a very pleased ebay shopper for years I don't even remember ever setting up my account. I have never sold anything on ebay though. Kind of sounds like the Auzzies are really having it bad..too bad for ebay.

I'm impressed.. I think it's gonna be a usefully little pruning tool to have around. It cuts well, probably only because the chain is brand new. No oiler – will have to wait and see about that. Solid little tool though. I get the impression that little saws like these are very popular in the East (Indochina, Malaysia, Korea / what ever).
I had picked this eBay cheapo out from hundreds of other choices. Deliberately chose a short 4" bar too. $47__ after tax and delivery / with 6 chains and 2 x 24V batteries. Lithium batteries - I hope they live longer than old Ni-Cd battery packs used to.

That used to be the case. These days eBay is merely a bunch of vendors rebadging stuff direct from China at 400% markup. You're better off buying from AliExpress (the same can be said for a lot of the stuff on Amazon too, but not to the same extent as eBay).
If you want actual second-hand stuff then it all seems to have moved to Etsy.

You probably have a low social credit score or too high of a carbon footprint.

I've never had anything to do with AliExpress.
But just from looking at online advertising I would not trust them.
Something on Amazon or eBay (may their name be cursed) might be say twelve dollars and on AliExpress two dollars. Maybe.
Anyway such a big difference that something must be wrong somewhere.

It's the shipping that is wrong. AliExpress doesn't advertise shipping rates out front, and you don't find out how exorbitant those might be until you attempt to order. Sometimes the shipping can cost 2x to 3x the price of the item being sold. With Amazon and eBay, at least you can pick out vendors that offer "Free" shipping, and that can tell you how dependable a particular vendor is.
,
Independent AliExpress sellers are now cropping up and that may effect shipping prices that aren't ordered directly from China.

I've only bought from eBay one time. I was shopping around looking for copper triclamp ferrules that I could solder onto my 2" copper pipe. I found some from Lions Brewing (on eBay)for a reasonable price and places my order. I received them with in a few days. I had no issues with the product or the service provided.
With all that said... I would've been upset if I had of had issues. But luckily for me that wasn't the case. Maybe you could make another account in you wife's name or even your kids or a friend that wouldn't mind. Amazon is also been great with costumer service (prime member) .
Maybe you can call or email eBay and see what the issue is. Hopefully they will make it right for you. I'm sure they don't want to loose your business. Good luck man.
