Sorry to ask guys, but I'm struggling with identifying tails here.
I'm running 42L @38%abv of something similar to Shadys sugar shine on my spirit run in a 1500mm tall 3" column packed with spp.
I'm taking fores n heads off at 14ml per minute (840ml/h)
Then hearts onwards I'm holding steady at 55ml/m or 3300ml/h all the way.
I'm hitting ~96%abv all the way. Fores and heads seem pretty easy to identify, I'm getting 2450ml before hearts come along. My vapour temp hits 172.3 real early in that 2450ml.
Thing is I'm then getting 8.5L hearts, still 96%, why 8.5L? Well I've had some private tuition from a respected member and the math just supports the numbers in line with what this guy achieves from his run. So I playing it safe.
Plus my vappur temp stays solid at 172.3 throughout this 8.5L.
However, my tails are just about odorless, no wet dog or cardboard. Pretty clean tbh, I'm rubbing on my hands and asking friends, we cant smell much anything besides neutral spirit.
But, right after the 8.5L my temp dipped 0.1f just for a very short time ie 100ml worth if that and popped back up to 172.3 again where it stayed until I shut down.
I shut down 2.5L after hearts after my temp once again dipped 0.1f, so that's the second 0.1f dip I encountered. No spikes. After 8 hours I'd had enough though. This 2.5L still 96%.
All in all, I've collected ~13.5L @96% out of an alcohol content of the boiler holding ~16L of alcohol (38% of 42L)
So, I've left 2.5L alcohol in the boiler (pretending my 96% is 100% for easy calcs). Just wondering what the more experienced of you guys think, am I shutting down too early? Am I not smelling tails because I'm not reaching them?
Are my proportions similar or way off from your cuts, please could anyone running Shady comment on my cuts relation to yours to help me understand?
Right now I'm minded to just keep the 8.5L hearts to be safe side, but it's a long tough process and leaving behind extra litres would be a waste.
