11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month? We call it Armistice and it represents the official end of the 1st world war. Same root?

Thanks to all the all the veterans for their service. I was up early this morning and lit a candle in remembrance. I'll ride out to the local national cemetery tomorrow to pay my respects.

A good weekend to all!

One in the same NormandieStill.

Sometimes when I've a bit to drink, or some young kid says "thanks for your service" I simply reply "The best thanks you can give a veteran, is to live a life they would be proud to put theirs on the line for."
Happy Birthday to the USMC, and it's Friday, so R.E.D.
Tomorrow is Veterans day in the US, and Armistice Day everywhere else. Say a prayer for peace. The world could use it.

My uncle was killed in World War One.
Dad was born in 1903 and brother George was older.

A sad day for all.

Thank you,, on behalf of all of the vets here. We didn’t join for praise. We didn’t fight for glory. We did what we needed to be done for you. I’d do it again. Thank you.

Here in AU its known as Remembrance Day.
Today I happened to be in a large supermarket just before 11am, suddenly an announcement came over the PA system saying that as it was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month , everybody in the building should stop and observe a minutes silence in honor of all of those who have fought and served and the end of world war I. FWIW the place went completely silent and not a person moved or made a sound from what I saw and heard.
I've never seen that happen in a place like a super market before .....maybe I've just been in the wrong places at the wrong time previously.
My opinion of that particular supermarket chain was elevated some, that's not easy for me to say, Supermarkets in general usually rate a 10 on my scale of shonky shit businesses that I rather not deal with.
I could consider it another marketing ploy .......but I'll give them the benefit of doubt.
That short minute made me proud to be an Aussie and gave me hope for this F#cked up world that we live in.

I was not aware it was known as Veterans day in USA  Thought it was only an NZ/Au thing (Remembrance Day)

Salty , had similar experience . Down at Urangan Markets. The regular singer stopped . Then the announcement .

Just for that brief moment silence . A reset . A think . A realisation that all we have now is due to those that did what they did . ……. A sinking heart . …Thank you

As a Viet Nam era US Navy Vet, ex-Submarine Sailor and Navy Diver, (1970-74), I'd like to thank all my fellow Vets, and those actively serving, in all the branches of the military, for their sacrifices and service. Enjoy the day and reflect on your life, and being here to tell about it.
As the saying goes at our local Veteran service clubs, "All gave some, and some gave all." Think about that for a minute...
Happy Veteran's Day to all those who stepped up to serve.

I served.... today it was on the wrong side. A lot of good guys was left behind and they will not be remembered unless for a trail... But I salute those that you remember. May you always be able to remember them.

Yes I think that rings a bell. I look at that pic often and think of the horrific events those men endured. I don't feel so bad giving my angels share up now.🍻

It's been a good day. Therapeutic actually. I accomplished a lot today, but I also had a drink in remembrance of all those who cannot do the things we often take for granted. Like raking leaves, playing with the dog, and of course making whiskey. About to head out to a surprise party for a fellow veteran, and brother Mason.

I was eating with a coworker who happens to be an Iraq war vet. I picked up the check and thanked him, to which he responded “I didn’t do it for you. I did it for my own reasons.” To which I replied that regardless of his reasons, the fact is he served and I’m grateful for the sacrifices that he and his brothers have made.

To all who have served in the armed forces, thank you. I wish we lived in a world where nobody could remember a need for that level of sacrifice and dedication. Thank you for being there for all of us.

I was at my local last evening. Was wearing a US ARMY retired cap when this young many walked up behind me. I’m expecting some sort of trouble, given today’s atmosphere. He held out his hand and thanked me for my service, sincerely. Never been so moved in my life. I found out later he had paid for a round for my wife and I.
