Greetings

Post by Biffy »

Newbie here.

My daddy used to home distill in our basement when I was a kid.

Family was from Balkan region of Europe where everybody distills....legal. recently I've been watching a TV series about moonshining called "Master Distiller" or something like that. It's very different from the way my family and friends make whiskey back in Europe...so I have a few different questions.

Thnx for any help you can give?

Welcome! @Biffy
Sounds like you might have some personal experience with how actual home distillation is done. Quiet and in a basement.
Read the forums for new distillers and the rules we live by and you should be good! Biggest advice I can give right now that will help keep people on this site in a good mood about you is to say home distillation, moonshine-ing while it is the trendy buzzword is here considered making liquor to sell without a license and is not making liquor just for personal use without a license.
Other than that do your research. People on this site mean well and if you’ve done your reading they will be nice and helpful even if a bit blunt. Be ready to back up your ideas and plans with facts and logic and your time here should go smoothly. However if you’re here to just get spoon fed and think that you’re gonna be some “trendy outlaw” without blood, sweat, tears, and a lot of reading it’s gonna be rough.

Thnx again everyone. I'm pretty good at taking advice...and crap. Had 2 older brothers and 2 older cousins. Tough growing up. Rather have it straight to the point. I'll see if I can share some info from friends in Europe who home distill and a friend in the US who makes some killer beer if you are interested.
