First barrel ageing

Post by Peaty Jones »

Im still planning what to do as my first distillation but i want to plan it quite thorougly. I thought that if i want to do a scotch type whiskey it would need to be done quite authentically and respecting the ways. By that I mean I want to age it In a used american oak bourbon barrel. I was thinking of buying one but what the heck, why not do some bourbon myself and use that same barrel later for scotch .

I havent done a single distillation yet except the sacrificial run and I may be a bit ahead of myself. Maybe I should do some test spirits or something at first but i feel I havent got that much spare time and Im interested more about the whole process. Maybe its more fruitful way to do it straight away.

Anyways.. Any tips or recommendations? Suggestions for where to buy barrel? (need to be able to ship to Europe)
