New home distiller needing help
Hey all I’ve been a big fan of Moonshiners: Master Distiller and as of recently I have decided to get into home distillation myself. I have been doing as much research as I can and have been watching introduction videos on Youtube on channels such as philbillymoonshine and Still’n the Clear. As a result I have bought myself Vevor Still 5 gallon off of Amazon. I know that a lot of people still don't like this still for good reasons, but I wanted a cheap starter to be able to practice and get the fundamentals down before investing into a bigger still. From my understanding I need to clean the still first with soap and water and gives it a good scrub, second with a vinegar run (following the instruction of this article https://www.whiskeystillpro.com/blogs/n ... inegar-run) and lastly a sacrificial run. For the sacrificial run I have been reading that it’s best to do a simple sugar wash run or use cheap commercial booze like everclear. I have been leaning towards the everclear side, but would like your guys opinion on the matter and instructions for which option on how to proceed. I really want to make sure I start off strong with a properly cleaned still. After that is taken care of I want to start getting into making the mash and have been looking for simple recipes online and on YouTube. I really like the Marcotte: silver moon moonshine and want to make something similar to that or the Sugarlands Shine: Mountain Corn Legacy. If anyone has any instructions/recipes that I could follow please feel free to post them as I am open to any suggestions. If you are able to modify the measurements for me to fit a 5 gallon still that would be extremely appreciated and if not I’ll try my best to modify it myself. Just tryna be as detailed as possible in my first go at home distillation.
