Added a refill port onto my pot still column, coz I wasn't smart enough to add one to the top of the boiler when I was getting it welded up.

The piece of 1/4" tube across the back is bracing, and makes a big difference.

Good idea! Nice retro fit. I assume you have a valve on top of the brass fitting? Do you also have a drain in your boiler or do you just top off the amount you have collected?

another option would be to fill via the drain port. Install a T between your drain valve and your boiler, add a length of pipe vertically with another valve at the top. The top of the pipe should coincide with the fill level you wish inside your boiler. Gravity is the darndest thing. This mod could be done by most without cutting another hole or interfering with the column in short order.

Yup, was smart enough to get a drain on the boiler.

I use a threaded brass end plug to seal it.

Didn't think of that, but it would also work.

Another way would have been to use a brass T-join on the top of the column cap, with one end sticking upwards, instead of a 90º bend.
