I've been lazy about this, but I finally added Haggy's updated pot still/thumper calculator and his new packed reflux colum calculator to the calculators page of the wiki.
PLEASE check these out and comment. Test them, respond with your real time data. Haggy is absolutely amazing, what a resource for us. Put it to good use!

Nice! These are tremendously valuable for modeling designs before you build. Thank you!
Congrats Haggy!

Haggy's pot still/thumper and packed reflux column calculators have been updated to the latest revisions.
Give them a try and give feedback. Haggy wants people to test these and share their results.

Re: Finally - I uploaded two new Haggy Calculators
Uncle Jesse,
Thanks for adding these calculators to the Wiki.
The updated Pot-Thumper Calculator now includes the option for US gal or Liters and for C or F temperatures in the Input and Output Results. It also gives a better calculation when a high amount of Riser Reflux or Thumper Internal Reflux are input. Results without added reflux are similar to the original calculator.
The new Packed Column Reflux Calculator gives expected results for a spirit run for a 2", 3" or 4" CM, VM or CCVM packed reflux column. The user specifies the pot charge amount and abv, the power ( watts ) and the desired distillate product rate. The calculator makes an estimate of the vapor amount and abv coming off the packing, then subtracts the amount of product made to get the amount of reflux and the reflux ratio. The product abv% is estimated using a table of normal expected values.
The reflux column diameter and packing length are specified. Also an estimate is made for the HETP of the packing used. A HETP value of 4.5 inches is used for copper mesh and for SS scubbies. So the theoretical plates for the run are the packing length divided by the HETP.
The user specifies a CM or a CCVM column. The reflux condenser operation is included in the calculations. When a CM is chosen, a shotgun reflux condenser ( deflagmeter ) is used, when a CCVM is chosen, a Dimroth coil condenser is used. The user specifies the dimensions of the condenser. The user finds the cooling water flow rate to make the heat released from condensing the reflux flow equal to the reflux condenser heat removal. Heat removal is sensitive to many process variables, mainly the surface area of the condenser, the inlet cooling water temperature and the cooling water flow rate.
Both the column operation and condenser calculations have been fit to several real run data sets. The calculator should get you in the ballpark on several run operating results and what condenser size is good and what cooling water flow rate to start with and then fine tune during the run.
Some other run details are also estimated, like the run time to the start of tails, the amount and abv of the hearts made and how close to flooding the column is operating at. Good run conditions for a future run are also suggested.
Current users of these reflux columns, please try out this calculator and give me feed back on its accuracy. Modifications can be made when necessary.
New reflux column users can benefit from using this calculator by knowing what to expect from different run conditions and to know what run conditions and equipment size ( especially the reflux condenser ) to use for a likely successful operation.
