Trying to decide on 110V contoller for T500 boil
Thanks for reading, im so confused, so here we go ,
I am interested if anyone has decent results using the following controller with a 6ish gallon T500 style boiler.
AC Variable Speed Controller, 120V~220V 15A 4000W SCR Voltage Controller for Router Fan Electric Motor Rheostat
Visit the SDRGEEK Store
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2VLSVR5/? ... ig_dp_it
Amos review are all over the place and some written in chinglish.
My yet un-purchased controller will power a 25L T500 style boiler with a copper dome and a liebig condenser.
is this a ok mid range controller ?
Thanks in Advance, ( eyes crossed from days of reading HDF anytime I have spare moments )

Re: Trying to decide on 110V contoller for T500 boil
AFAIW , T500 boilers have 2000w element .
Thats just over 18amps @ 110v
Although that controller is rated @4000w , it also has a maximum current of 15amps .
So no, it won’t handle it .
EDIT : seems 120v T500 has a 1600w element which only draws 13.3 Amps .
So in that case , it should run it , but its close to max rating so wouldn’t expect it to last long .
I think Member Howie here reported having one of those controllers and the switch burned out . He found it was only a 6 amp switch .

Plano, those voltage controllers are specced a little enthusiastically, get a 10000w model and you'll be ok.planohog wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 4:35 pm Thanks for reading, im so confused, so here we go ,

I have one, and it's been controlling a 2kw 230v element (UK) for a couple of years no problem.
AliExpress is considerably cheaper than Amazon.
Mine was £13 but now around £17 I think.

Thank you all for the inputs, I found something that seems to have decent reviews.

I can also use this while troubleshooting ham radio power supplies.
on to the just right T500 , there are many of those items to select from.

This style will give you more precise control. None of these regulators are linear in their response. For repeatability, easier to punch in a number than to micro-manage dial rotation. T500 comes in various voltage/wattage configurations. 10K watts will give you more than enough headroom.

Hey bushrob,
Is that last picture a commercially available item?
I’m having the same issue and have been chasing the temp up and down!

dial location, and it is sensitive, moving the knob just a bit is all you need. work great with the 8-10
gallon/ 30 - 40 Liter 1500 watt boilers.
