Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to distilling, make that very new and from tiny little NZ.
It may or may not be on your map.
I scored a T-500 (I know they are not that great) with reflux and pot heads so looking forward to taking it for a spin

Welcome to the rabbit hole!
I've heard the T-500 is plenty good enough to start off learning the craft with. You'll find plenty of good stuff on the "New Distillers' Lounge" -- it's a good place to build the foundations and learn the technical terms that will help you start digging on your own.
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums from a fellow kiwi.
A lot of people have the T500 as a first still. Plenty of threads around discussing every aspect of them. The reflux heads can be a little finicky at times, but the pot head is just fine. I use a T500 boiler for my rums and whiskeys.

Re: Hell hello
Thanks, first one went well enough. Only ended up with around 400mls at 80% that tasted good out of around 21L of wash. I'll blame the turbo and start another one. A lot of it was up towards 90% but had a bad taste or smell. Good for learning the process though.
Not sure how much hearts I should be looking for from that quantity of wash?
I could have squeezed a few more liters out but didn't have a decent cloth for straining. (It was a TFFV style so had wheat in it).
