Long time home brewer interested in distillation

Hello all,

The subject says it all. I've been brewing for 20+ years and I'm interested in learning about the distillation process to make whiskey. I've always be fond of Irish whiskeys and I'm hoping to leverage my brewing experience, (and equipment), to make my own. Recently I've been gravitating toward rye whiskey as well, so I plan to look into that too.

I have some loose plans to build a CCVM still using a keg and the electric element and controller from my homebrew set-up. I'm hoping to be able to get everything together within the next few months, but I'm in no rush.

Welcome to the forum SquirrelHead.

Your brewing experience will stand you in good stead at the fermentation side of the hobby.

I run a modular CCVM and use it in pot still mode to make whisky.

Good that you're in no rush, do plenty of research before you buy/build anything and you'll do ok.

Welcome SquirrelHead the beauty of modular is versatility. Having brew equipment that can double duty with your upcoming still is a bonus.
Enjoy the ride and play safe.

Welcome. Since you are on your way as you read pay particular attention to power vs temp control. I suspect your controller is for temp control in brewing.
