buying a new spigot

Post by sadie33 »

I did up 2 batches of SBB all molasses rum and as I'm just about done, I noticed both of my spigots were cracked (probably hitting them with the paint mixer  ) One of them was slowly leaking so I wrapped them both with electrical tape and put on a zip tie. That worked, but I want to order more spigots and I can't find out what size I need.

Is it the width of the hole? I see a lot of 1/2" spigots for sale, but my hole is bigger than that. I'm ordering a couple 7.9 gal buckets to start a dunder pit and would like to order some spigots for that too. Thinking of one on the bottom for removing sediment if needed and one in the middle for taking out the dunder.

Can you post a pic of these spigots you intend to replace?

I imagine you could install bulkhead fittings instead and attach a ball valve. Bulkhead fittings are usually much tougher than prefabricated spigots.

It's just a regular spigot that came with the bucket. My husband said to measure the hole, but I'm using both buckets so I don't have an empty bucket to measure the hole.

The place that sells them sells 1/2" and 3/8" spigots. I guess I could call them tomorrow. I wanted to put the order in tonight, but I guess I can wait.

That's a great idea!! I knew it was going to be something simple, but I just couldn't figure it.
thanks.

hmmmm...I was going to order these before finishing my post so I could say- all ordered and oddly enough they both say to install into a 1" hole, which is about what I thought my hole was. So it seems the measurement they give is not for the hole, but the tubing that would fit on the end of the spigot...problem solved.
