New to distilling
Hello to everyone I'm new to distilling. I live in Tennessee and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on building my first economical still. I have many skills and tools to develop pretty much anything but wanted to start out simple. Thanks in advance

Welcome AB! You've joined a great group with a vast array of experiences and knowledge.
You didn't mention what spirit(s) you plan to make, but starting with a keg pot still is relatively inexpensive and popular. Since this is a Welcome thread, you might post your inquiry in the Novice Distillers Section. Better yet, look through the thread here in that section.
Enjoy the journey!

Welcome aboard. Theres lots of great build threads in the builds section. Take some time to work out what you plan on making and have a look at the ways others have done. Then you can decide, simple pot still for "brown spirits" or a reflux for quality neutrals.

Welcome to HD! I was in your shoes about a year ago. Building is my favorite part now, the hooch is petty good too. The satisfaction you get from building, then running your own rig can't be match by buying, IMHO.

Hey there ABcarroll1973
Like others have posted I too enjoy putting together my own equipment. A lot of great ideas have put together on this forum... IMO I prefer modulation, being able to go from a pot still to a steam boiler etc. etc. Then adding "attachments" all the different configuration with different condenser designs. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Good to have you aboard.
Be safe and have fun

Welcome to the forum AB, it's a great place to learn everything you need to know about distilling.ABcarroll1973 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 1:45 pm Hello to everyone I'm new to distilling. There is a lot of great info here about building your first still, and collectively we always advise people to build something they can grow with in the hobby. An old Stainless beer keg is a really great base for a still.
Do plenty of reading and searches around here before you commit to anything, patience in this hobby is always repaid.
Whatever you do, enjoy!
