I thought I had seen a thread a while back about making a thumper from a corny keg.
I was going to use 1 of mine for this and was wondering how to get the quick connect fittings out of it so I can make those holes bigger to use for the in and out.

Use a wrench/spanner and unscrew them.

They weren't screw in. I used the cut off wheel on the grinder and a uni-bit (cone bit) to open the holes up to 1 inch

Pics are always handy . If not to help you , but the next fella that comes along .

It's gonna take a little love to get looking good but, there is my thumper in the making.

Looks like the beginning of a fine Thumper .
Should be a good match for a 15 -18 us gal keg boiler .

What would be the better diameter for inlet and out, I was thinking of using 1inch pipe, or would ¾ be better or maybe a 1 inch inlet and ¾ out? Just getting opinions before I make it, I've got a couple of weeks before I use it.
It will be used with a 15g keg

I'm going to go with 1 inch in and out, it was available and I don't want to wonder if I should have used 1inch instead of ¾. I'm hoping to get out today and work on it. I did grab some 1½ pipe but, I think it's too big use on the corney.

I am 2nd guessing using the quick connect ports as my in and out, too late now but......

I was able to spend a few hours in the garage this afternoon and got the corney thumper ready for soldering the down pipe and out. I need to get 2 1 inch unions to finish.

My cornys use a rubber gasket to seal the main "lid".
How did you get around that?

There are silicone gaskets for them, I'll find it and post a link. I'm wondering about the pressure release valve, I'm sure it has a rubber o-ring. I'll check that tomorrow.

That's the first one that popped up

While looking at the prv in the lid, it occurred to me that that is the high part of the domed top of the corny, so I made that my exit spot. I had already made the holes on each side though so, I dropped a ¾ female adapter in there and brazed it, I'll get a ¾cap to block the inside.

I'm waiting on my 1 inch unions to get it all soldered up

I got my unions and got to work, I had a hard time with the brazing again but, I got it done. I will get pics up tonight when I get it all together and cleaned up.

My thinking is that the hot gasses coming over from the boiler will immediately start moving upwards. (heat rises)

I lowered it to within an inch of the domed bottom

It's almost complete, I need to get some fruit of some sort ferminting so I can run it with whatever fruit I'm using in it. For my corn and bourbon I'm not sure that I'll need to use a thumper. Either way, I'll always have it ready to go
