Bots

Post by Bushman »

We are experiencing over 1000 non registered users on line that is bogging down the forum. If you see a new member with a link in their profile or signature page that goes to a game or some non related to distilling site please report it to an administrator. I like many others are frustrated with the slow process the forum takes.

Any idea why this suddenly happened? Going from no problems to site-wrecking levels seems targeted. But I might just be paranoid.

It’s not new normandie.
I recall it happening at least twice before over the last two years . Uncle found it was due to excessively high usage and did something and the usage dropped and we were right again . However this time he has been unsuccessful and last heard was going to get the bug guns involved .
Thats all we know .

Scrapers (Bots) training AI is my theory.
This forum is the best one on the net for what we do, and someone who knows this is being paid to suck all the info out of it to pump into AI to train it.

Lots of people, making lots of money at this right now, those in the know all want a piece while it lasts.

Today: not allowed to open “Active Topics” (if engaging as a visitor – rather than as a member).

Bulletin Board software, website management, HTML, CSS, SQL, PHP and all that other stuff is a confusing blob to me. I have only the limited mental acuity to focus upon one endeavor at a time; and fiddling with this kind of material is way, way down the list.

But I occasionally run into irritating verification screens like this one pictured. Cloudflare cost money, but there might be free Open Source alternatives out there that don't. If theses would help against HD's apparent bot problem - or if this is already being done; again I have no idea, like I said.
