Retort/Thumper convert to slobber box?

I was curious if anyone here has removed the downpipe/ spear to convert the thumper to a slobber box. If so was the flavor difference noticeable. Especially those who have 2 retorts who converted one. It would seem an easy way to remove some of the heavier chems that have off flavors.
