2” vs 3” bubble plates?

Hi
On a 2” reflux column is there any benefit in having a 3” bubble plate ( with 3 caps) and reducers vs having a 2” bubble plate (with 1 cap) ?
Is it speed related or can you get increased quality?
Thanks
Chris
