Runs not drips - in pulses

Post by Bren_74 »

I've just tried my new infra red hob under my pot still. I only ran water through it. I thought that would get the remnants of the vinegar run cleaned out of the system.

I only put about 12ltrs of water in the boiler - it was stone cold water straight from the hose pipe - and it got up to 100c in bang on 1hr at 3500w. I will have to rectify the still bottom, as it was shaking like a shitting dog due to the bottom being bowed (after just one run on an induction hob!!!)

I wanted to practice keeping the drips out of the condenser nice and slow by adjusting the power but all I got was small flows of water, then a few seconds of nothing and repeat. Sort of pulsing rather than dripping.

I've checked the worm as I've read that flat spots or uphill runs can cause similar issues due to the condense having to build up to get through these bits. I couldn't see any issues there.

Just a long shot, but does water come out differently to alcohol? Could this be the issue and everything will be fine when I run a wash tomorrow? Or does the temp of the water flowing through the condenser make any difference?

BTW I've read that infra red hot plates don't pulse so it shouldn't be that.

Thanks for any help
