Running a 100% oat (Quaker Rolled Oatmeal) now.
15 gallon bucket,
13ish gallons of water.
Angel Yellow Label (80 grams).
30 pounds of Oatmeal ($7 for 10 pounds at Costco).
Didn't measure gravity - b/c no cooking, the koji and the yeast are working in parallel. It'll be interesting to see where the alcohol content lands when it ferments out.
I am smelling rotten eggs, will go pick up some yeast nutrients later today (Fermaid) to see if the issue is stressed yeast.
The other potential issue is that the yeast package (500g) is OLD, like 3 years old. Maybe 4. It was vacuum sealed and in the fridge, but I wan't sure if it was going to do anything. It's going and going fast, but who the hell knows.
I made a pure oatmeal once and it was great, but it's been a long time, and it was a thick sticky pain in the ass. I didn't bother with it again after that. Now that I have a jacketed still on the way, I've decided to give it another go.
