Being new to the hobby I set myself a task to learn about my ingredients among many other things
I'm currently on a Malt Whiskey buzz
Quickly about what I've done, then on to the planning of what's to come.
I've somewhat figured out the Badmo clone thing, so the intention would be for them all to sleep in one of them for a while
Whiskey #1
Blend of pale and lager malts
5% Oats
1% crystal
In my only real Badmo, since March
Whiskey #2
42% lager
42% Munich
8% Crystal
8% Oats
Final stripping run to happen this week, spirit run to come, going into Badmo clone
Whiskey #3
60% Lager malt
30% Wheat malt
10% Munich malt
1st 40L mash fermenting
I'm also planning #4 and #5
#4 will be about pale chocolate malt c.500 ebc, I find in brewing this comes in more chocolatey than darker malts
I'm thinking 8-10%, maybe some crystal malt, but I think not in this one or should I add a blend of pale chocolate and brown malts
It's a while away, but anyone with thoughts or experiences I'd love to hear about them
#5 I'm not the biggest fan of peated whiskeys but I got a drop last weekend with a subtle peatyness playing with what I think is chocolate as well.
This is months away so plenty of time to think about it and maybe pick up some hints from the ones that go before. I have some medium peated malt on the way, any suggestions on percentages for a background note rather than a smoke bomb would be especially welcome. I would be kind of tempted to make this in a Poitín style with a chunk of raw barley and keep it white, but that remains to be seen
So many malts...my whiskey project
