how not to make a still

here's a prime example of how not to make a still. check this out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz7ylAkS ... annel_page" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

As you can see, the still is made from a cooking pot with a copper tube through the top. it appears to be held to the pot with some sort of sealant, hmm, not exacly a good idea. the second big problem i see with the design is he is using a 1/4" tube on a section of his "still". thirdly, there is a piece of plastic hose leading to his collection vessel which is directly in the vapour path. finally, there is no condenser anywhere on this setup, instead he has fixed some copper scrubber to the end of the outlet tube, presumably, he is expecting this to knock down the vapour coming through that tiny 1/4" tube  .

i have to say i was shocked to see this video. asides from the risk of blowing himself up, i wouldn't like to share a glass of his "product".

i have just looked through a few of his other videos, check out his big still idea. the final condenser is hooked up again, with a 1/4 tube. judging by the size of this boiler (about 20 gallon by the look of it) i would not like to be anywhere near his house when he fires this giant ethanol bomb up.

it never ceases to amaze me that with all the information available on the net, that some people still manage to get it completely wrong. unfortunately in this case it's not just a bad design, it's a potentially lethal design.

Yeah, I just shake my head every time I accidentally open that video... Sure is a small boiler he has there...

"Hey, honey, cook me up a shot - I'm thirsty!"

While we're on topic of how to not make a still, I figured I'd share this:

Unlike the OP, this guys is actually planning on drinking the distillate.

Yeah, I remember that one... Nothing like some high ABV ethanol condensed using a biodegradable garbage bag to warm your belly... Yum... Yum...

This sounds even better than the Grain Alcohol and Moonshine stuff. The plastic bag is a new concept.

It's a wonder that moonshining isn't illegal with dumb-arses like that around. <shaking head>

Dumb-arses are gonna be dumb-arses, no matter what the law says.

wow, i wish i thought of that  one thing i gotta point out, in the replies below that amazing how to :? , it just goes to show you how many people are completely uninformed when it comes down to our hobby. you've got everything from the "moonshine kills" type comments to people actually advising the guy to use plastic bags made of another material (seriously, he must be as retarded as the guy who posted the how to in the first place)

here's a couple of my favourites:-
nobody says:
The bag is probably HDPE, which is kind of safe but using a thick PP bag would be a better idea.
cabagecookie says:
I found this gas can in my basement- washed it out with amonia... then water. once i thought it was totally clean I poured water, sugar, and yeast once it was filled... i smelled it and I can kinda smelled a light gas oder. should i dump it? (hmm, well, let me think  )
At least there was one person with sense there :-

^^ x2

my god! remind me to never drink someone elses shine, and in the same sense to never be offended by someone thta wont drink mine if they havent seen my setup, because from now on, I dont think I`d drink from someone elses unless I seen theirs. Who knows, maybe they got their design from some cock-a -mania idea like the ones here!!!! O.o
