Aeneas Coffey (1780 – 1852), engineer in Ireland who was responsible for the development of the coffey or columnar still, a continuous still originally introduced in 1830 and patented in Dublin, Ireland in 1831. With little variation, Coffey stills are still used worldwide in modern times.
