From Bergen Family of Long Island, New York, pg. D208; Teunis Nyssen emigrated to New Amsterdam as early as 1638 from the Prov. of Utrecht, Netherlands. He patented his father-in-law's land in Manhattan in 3 Apr 1647. He later bought land in Gowanus and in 1655, Flatbush, Brooklyn. There he was a magistrate in 1658 and 1661, and a member of the Dutch Reformed Church.
