paint cans?

On the home distiller page there is a plan for a still that uses a paint can for a boiler, and a smaller one for a thumper. Is this safe? Ive got hundreds of paint cans laying around, so i could defiantly do this if its safe.

Word of advice...dont take a sealed lid off a wash. I thought it was near done fermenting, so i took the lid of a wash. It erupted with a explosion of fruit that smelled good at least.

my room smells like wine now. There is fruit all over the place.

this strain simply cant be stopped!

i forgot to turn the heater on, so it was cold for about 18 hours, but 2 hours after returning heat it once again thrives. I am thinking about taking the stuff from the next wash and doing one big one(5gal)

oh, never heard of that being a problem.

CoopsOz wrote:Do you have to worry about all the little strawberry seeds? I know it's minimal just thought I'd ask.
i dont worry, they strain out after fermenting.

I made 4 washes with the strained stuff of the first one. All of them are going wild! crazy activity all night and day.

you can also make something similar(though not near as good) Take frozen strawberries, crush them up well. Put them in a container and pour vodka on them, add sugar(as sweet as you'd like it) stir it, strain it and drink it.(let it sit a few hours before straining for even more strawberry flavor and...

reusing strawberry wash yeast?

I made a small strawberry wash 4 days ago. Right now, its tasting like strong wine, its actually pretty tasty too. I am going to distill it tomorrow. Would it work if I reuse the strained off stuff(cap, debris from the strawberries) in another wash to get it going without yeast? I used regular ol' b...

On my second distillation: Lighting some booze fresh off the still right beside it. I didnt think it was burning because it was still hot so I threw it in the main jug and some on my arm, which made my knock over 2 cups of 70% nearly burning down the shed.

jars like the one in the middle are worth money, if they are the same type I had. I sold 10 of them I found while cleaning out an old ladys garage for 50$ each.

Defiantly going to attempt this one when i collect enough rain water. I can see how the rain water would help, it has to have hella good nutrients in it, not to mention it would be pretty pure.

Just an update: Its acting up quite a bit, bubbling/producing co2 at an almost violent rate. Fermenting in my bedroom with a heating pad under a blanket with the bucket of wash @ 74F I have had to reseal the lid to the fermenting chamber quite a few times, and I am often hearing the "pop" ...

I will discard the first 100ml next time. Is it better to make multiple small washes, or one big one? Could someone recomm...

I would like to see some pics of this ice water still. Word. I will do that next time I run it. To explain it easier, it is just a stock pan with a extremely large stainless steel bowl on top full of ice and water. What exactly did I make?

Well, I cant afford booze, and I needed a hobby so I picked up on distilling. Thats pretty much all there is about me. I plan on making this a long term hobby, so I will be here a while. you could say I started off bad. I just guessed on quantities of yeast and sugar and made a 1 gallon sugar wash. ...
