Re: new still
it's a copper plated flange and under that is cork, silicone is non reactive with other products after cured, no black pipe used, all copper.
But I bought it, it's works, might not be perfect, but it's all I have, till I can read for another year to figure out what to build or buy

Re: new still
usage of plastics/ synthetics in distilling I don't see either on my still, unless your talking about the foam tape, but that is easy to replace with a flour paste, but even if I wanted to order a mile high milk jug still, there are out of stock right now. But we ate still trying to figure out what ...

Re: The Whisky Water trick
At least Turkey is Bourbon, I have had Rare Breed Turkey at 116 Proof, just like it finished , filtered only, but I'm starting to like what I'm making more and can't wait to get better.

I ordered it, received it , now making 85% 170 proof good drinking stuff that will only get better as I learn, then I can figure out which still to build to do a better job, but for now the beginners have a still that works, easy to run, will keep us growing and learning in the distilling hobby. If w...

I ordered from http://www.bootleggerstills.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow, so I was lucky or he's doing a better job with it, the flange was copper plated and SS screws and producing good stuff and getting better as we learn to mash better. If ...

Re: new still
OK I have the double thumper and we have made four runs since Christmas, I did silicone the lids to the copper after the water run, as the jars would slip down off the copper, Using silicone top and bottom of the lid kept the jars in place and made it easy to dump the jars as necessary. So I haven't...

Re: Why is my Mash taking so long?
OK I guess hydrometer will work if you have a cage to hold the grains back, and the refractometer doesn't tell you anything till the starches start to convert to sugar, and it only takes 3 drops to test and doesn't care if there is solids in the drops. The last flaked corn mash I did, I started with...
