Hi I'm Herb and I'm a distiller
My brother and I are getting back to our hillbilly roots, got us a Triple Turbo Stomper still for Christmas and our first corn wash was done and ran it on Christmas, our first batch came out great at 170 proof, has a light corn taste, the second batch wasn't bad but dropped to 150 proof at the end, the wash didn't seem as good as the first one that took 11 days to finish.
But the hydrometer doesn't work well in a corn mash, so ordered a refractometer, because it will read sugar content in a heavy grain mash, and knowing the brix, lets you figure the ac hole content on finish, knowing the percent alcohol tell you how much good stuff you will end up with.
So the washes we have running now have distillers yeast in them to kick up the percentage up around 20 or better, now that we have the refractometer we can watch the brix go down, the new wash I made is dropping a point and a half a day and leading the others so far, but it is nice to know as least we will know what we are running and know why it came out good like the 3rd batch did too.
But any way do have a lot to learn, and we have used some of the ideals from here already in the last batch that is doing so well, but so far having fun with the still, what that and taste testing to sure we did good , Thanks for all the help so far.
I think it proved out, a bottle cap full burnt for 3 minutes

Nice, bright orange flame...hope that's not what you are drinking.
Welcome to HD. If you've done any reading here, then you already know what the general concensus is on those glass thumpers.

Re: Hi from FLA
I have to search for the info on the glass thumpers and yes I do sip on this rocket fuel, it is smooth even though we haven't got our sour mash were we want it since we just started and haven't done a backset ferment yet, as some how I missed that, didn't understand it or wasn't included the recipes I had before.
But now I have read Uncle Jesse's recipe and will start doing it right

Re: Hi from FLA
Turbo stomped.
You are lucky you even got your order. Well I guess that depends on how you look at it. Unlucky too. Please search around research about your little thumper setup. And how unsafe it is. And that they are to small. And look at removing any and all synthetic seals it has.
By the way welcome aboard. Hope you take a good look around. So you can get on the safe path of this hobby.

The turbo stomper doesn't seem bad for a start, we already want to go a little bigger, but this will give us something to play with till we build the next one
Thanks for the Welcome, Herb
