Seems like that is not a very efficient use of the piping. Think about it like this; suppose you used a 1" inner pipe and then a 1 1/2" outer piper as a water jacket, now the only difference between the 2" jacket and the 1 1/2" jacket (besides huge cost or value if you just have ...

So I got tired on my first parrot, http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=35997 for many reasons but mostly because the beak that came off the cup of the parrot went out horizontal with a slight down slope, this made the collection point for whatever vessel I was using inconsistent ...

For cleaning your keg you can use some stainless steel chain and put it in your keg and then roll it around, shake it and get some serious exercise :> Basically your using the chain as an abrasive to clean the inside of your keg, works pretty good.

Are you double distilling it Belly? I cant drink 1st gen, 2nd gen... 9th gen, no matter how slow I run it through the pot still. So I just run my corn washes through until I get enough low wines to do a spirit run and then its a lot better even drinkable :> I kept some of my earlier single runs just...

Yes. so much fun stuff to think about, design, build and be safe. And Yeah.. like I said I will have to update photos of my current set up. To your questions; I do use a 5 gallon bucket for my coolant, but I used to have to change out buckets during runs; ie when the coolant would get hot I would sw...

Very nice! Love your craftsmanship and techniques. I might try your roller idea on a smaller scale and I love the palm nailer with a cupped backing jig for rivets, great technique. Its not the tools you buy, its the tools you make that outfit a good shop. Thanks for sharing. Butterman. PS Weather is...

I can completely relate and understand where your at. You just got a couple of runs under your belt and hopefully your excited and anxious to do some more and get more experience. Cleaning glass Carboys
I've been considering buying a couple glass 6.5 gallon carboys and was wondering how or what technique others use to clean them? They seem rather difficult to sanitize, unless you have access to an industrial lab and I understand glass can get pitted and can be hard to clean/sanitize. Any advice, te...

Thats really interesting Usage.
I never considered or have not read anything about using the thumper to add endless possibilities to the flavor. That makes a thumper a much more interesting addition to a pot still.

Re: what do you think of this cooling idea....?
I think Belly has a good point, that as a secondary condenser for your condensate your design will not be using all the tubes. You might think about a air cooled coil, that would add a significant amount of secondary cooling depending on the length, or just a simple liebig. But I know how it is to w...

I really like the design/concept of the cross flow condenser and have made a version of one but havent used it yet. The only problem I see with the design is possible build up of distillate in the flat part of the cross flow, although TheRevdr did a version of the Jackson Cross-Flow that is pretty w...

Cracked corn, water, sugar and some yeast in 2x 5 gallon buckets and you will be on your way, should work perfect for your 7 gallon boiler. A 5 gallon buckets with about 4" of cracked corn in it, water and 4-5lbs of dissolved sugar, after it absorbs water and swells up will produce a little ove...

May as well run it, right?
I mean boiling and alcohol will kill anything harmful (well I suppose the definition of harmful is a matter of perspective when making likker) and see what it tastes like.
Let us know what happens, I would be interested.

Re: last nights run..
Thats a beauty :> I would think that if you plumb it from the bottom so that it fills and then drains out the top it would stay in the system longer (hence losing more heat) as you could control the flow, if it enters the top you have gravity pulling it down and draining faster and not losing its he...

Have you thought about a possible union after your liebig to a possible attached parrot?
Then you could also try another section of 1/2" pipe with a 22.5* fitting to get even farther away from your heat source without leveling out or collecting on the ground?

What is the gaskets or dark looking sealing stuff around your caps?
Looks nice!
Maybe a secondary condenser or some kind of attachment to a parrot to get your take off away from your heat source?

I use a motorcycle radiator with a small fan and this keeps 5 gallons at about 70-75 degrees for hours. I will sometimes do 'change outs' when doing a real slow run that last 5+ hours.
