Re: First Build
Finally got around to cleaning out the basement and got her a permanent home. The wife was tired of me taking up the kitchen for a few days at a time doing stripping runs. Got a new hot plate and she's running right now.

Re: Found a Keg!!!
I read about venting the keg. I plan to heat with propane. Do I need to drill holes in the outer shell and if so...where?

Re: First Ever Mash.....attempt
First jar 140 proof, second 130, third 120. Guess I could have ran longer but like i said it was 3am. I'm thinking of just tossing these three jars together and add some dried banana chips. Question....if I had a jar at say 140 proof and added equal amount of water, would that give me 70 proof final...

Re: First Build
Damn, Did you run out of room to put your binders? I think you could have put a couple more on. I run my pot still with about 10 binders. That was with flour paste or my PFTE gasket. Just saying you really dont need that many, but I guess better safe than sorry huh. when I ran the cleaning run I go...

Re: First Ever Mash.....attempt
I'm assuming there must be some flour paste under all of those binder clips... :eh: I have a similar setup and I never have to flour paste the bowl to pot seal. It may just fit bang on in his setup and with adequate clips (which is obviously fine) and centering (you need to be anal about it) you wi...

Re: Banana Rum recipe
I also tried a run of bananas after reading this. It was my first run ever. Mine took 19 days to ferment. Not to hijack your thread but if anyone wants to read and comment on mine I'd appreciate the help.

I'm thinking of making some dried banana chips to soak for flavor. Is this a good idea? Also do I put it in the likker before or after dilution?

Re: A lot of foreshots???
How much did you collect per jar? small is a relative term in relation to still size. I have a 4.5 gal run goingRoundyround wrote:my banana wash was a bit funky, just collect in small jars and taste tomorrow. pick what you like and age a bit, it will get better.

A lot of foreshots???
Hey guys. I'm running my banana wash right now and has pulled about 200ml from a 4.5 gallon wash. It still smells like nail polish remover and a very stinging taste...no i'm not drinking it, just tasting and rinsing...is this normal? I figured I'd be into some better tasting stuff by now. By the way...

Re: First Ever Mash.....attempt
Ok. no thermometer it is. also the banana mash was a bastard to strain. used a pudding bag and squeezed every damn ounce of wash out by hand. for those of you who know what a pudding bag is, they are damn near waterproof.

Re: First Ever Mash.....attempt
Started the run a little while ago. Not sure if my thermometer is working or not. It's a digital one which i drilled a hole in the top of the pot and inserted half way. I had it at 175 for a long time then bumped up to 175. Then to 180. The tube is hot for about the first 8 inches. Let set for half ...
