Just wondering witch configuration everyone is running the water in lines on their flute / plated column stills. Cold water split into two with one running to the bottom of the Deflag and the other running to the bottom of the final product Condenser? Then the warm water out flowing from the top of ...

Glad to help @Axdelmar! Hope your product turns out good. Proper pot stilling is a trick I have not learned yet. Guys that are good at it just make it look simple though.... @Stilldrunk, if you are doing stripping runs with a birdwatchers wash, especially running a reflux rig, I think you can benef...

Here is what I do to get a clean, smooth product without using carbon: Low % ferment (around 10%) Fully clear the wash before stilling Add bicarb/carb to the low wines (strippings) Run through a tall column (at least 1000mm of packing) Let product age for at least two weeks before drinking DRINK! 8...

I think you've all missed a point here...there is no exoneration for having gotten rid of the still! The minute he sent money, he had committed the crime! I have too...so, TTB comes to the house, says they have financial records of you buying contraband and asks, "did you buy a still from XXX....

Re: Jimbo's Electric Conversion
yes that would be fine. 5500 watts will have no problem with that. As a reference I boil 12 gallons of beer at 3000W, do 12g spirit runs at 2000 and stripper runs at 4000. You could bring 22 gallons, 80+ liters, to a rolling boil in that tank no problem at all with 5500W. You could speed things up ...

Re: Heating with propane.
Safety is the foremost concern in heating a boiler. Where are you setup at? Outdoors propane is great with a little wind, but a lot of wind could cause problems. Electric works best with reflux columns. A lot different things can factor your choice. How about both? You have an electric heater alrea...

Re: Heating with propane.
Propane can be costly too. I used to run propane and still do for mashing but switched to electric for my keg with 240v and its the only way to go in my opinion. It's less setup, can do it indoors, and don't sweat from the heat in my case  Whats your setup involve? I would do electric if I...

Heating with propane.
I currently have a 8 gallon electric boiler and I'm thinking about upgrading to 13 or 25 gallon, I have never used a propane burner to heat a wash so my questions are, Do you prefer propane? Would the standard Bayou classic be fine to get 13 or 25 gallon boilers up to temperature? When you heat your...

Six windows , 8 plates, six inches of cooper, the pic is the third lt. the first two ran at 95% then it settled in at 94% for the next nine litres ,then two at 90 and three tails for the next run. except I bet it is illegal to ship a still into the US from Canada... Dunno - I got a coil thru from a fellow forum person. It would be up to the inspector to know the excise act ... and then be smart enough to enquire if the recipient has a valid permit for the still. Worst case, if they banged on...
